To advance the opening of the multimodal interchange into the district and make it easier for pedestrians to cross, the project plans to reorganise the urban transport (tram and bus lines), to eliminate car traffic and to relocate the Vivier Merle tunnel.
Boulevard Vivier Merle will be for pedestrians, bikes and public transport, facing the railway station and Place Béraudier. Car traffic will be eliminated at street level by the transfer of the left turn at rue Servient to the extended Rue Bouchut. The lengthening of the Vivier Merle tunnel to the south will free up the ground level of the Boulevard, while providing car access under the square (taxi ranks, car park, deliveries). There will be larger and more frequent pedestrian crossings all along the Boulevard. A continuous cycle path has been planned, feeding the large bike parking station on Place Béraudier.
The area attributed to bus platforms will be increased and divided among two areas:
- Surrounding the current T1 tram line station
- Facing the Two Lyon building, linked by the new railway station entrance located on Pompidou Avenue.
The Vivier Merle tunnel will also be upgraded. Lastly, an exit lane for cars will be created under the Boulevard to connect the Place Béraudier underground section with the Brotteaux-Servient tunnel.
