Development phase 1: 2017-2022
A 12th rail will be created to improve the “Nœud Ferroviaire Lyonnais” (Lyon rail service interchange) and the quality of service in the railway station.
The L rail is a major project to reduce congestion at Lyon Part-Dieu railway station as well as on its access lines. It will contribute to increasing the station’s train capacity, particularly at peak times when the railway approach tracks are occupied with trains at the platform, creating frequent delays. The upgrading of the related infrastructure will also reduce the number of trains crossing each other on tracks leading to the station, improving punctuality and enhancing the travellers’ passenger experience. It is planned to relocate the rental vehicle car park to a new building in Cour Villette and accessible from the railway station, so that the project can get underway.
